Cultural Program

*Meteora Monasteries do not pay taxes to the State and do not give a receipt. For this reason, everyone should pay 3 €. It is a custom of the Orthodox Church for everyone visiting these monasteries to pay this money to support them.

For the ladies can wear trousers but in the monasteries will wear shirts given by the monasteries.

Dion

Visit to the Archaeological Park of Dion and to the Archaeological Museum of Dion.

Mt. Olympus

Visit Mt. Olympus the highest Greek mountain, the residence of the twelve ancient gods. Olympus is internationally known as for its important ecological characteristics and incomparable natural beauty as well as for its strong relationship with ancient Greek mythology. he terrain contains many charming and splendid features amongst which are sheer rocky peaks, deep gorges, alpine fields and thick forest all combining to create the rare magic of Mount Olympus. In total there are 52 peaks ranging from altitudes of 760 m to 2918 m which combined with the sheer ravines create scenes of unique beauty.

Meteora

Visit Meteora. In a region of almost inaccessible sandstone peaks, monks settled on these ‘columns of the sky’ from the 11th century onwards. Twenty-four of these monasteries were built, despite incredible difficulties, at the time of the great revival of the eremetic ideal in the 15th century. Their 16th-century frescoes mark a key stage in the development of post-Byzantine painting. The visit will include Monastery of Agios Stephanos, Monastery of the Great Meteoron, Varlaam Monastery, also we advised the ladies that the monasteries have a dress code (women must wear long skirts and keep shoulders covered).

During the visits to the archaeological sites certified tourist guides will guide you through the sights.(The persons accompanying you can also join the tours).

Every night the program will include dance groups and folk dances.

On Wednesday (04/10/2017), Friday (06/10/2017) and Saturday (07/10/2017) after dinner Greek folk dances will be presented. The groups which will present the folk dances are:

Pontian Association Euxeinos Pontos of Korinos – Pieria. Efxeinos Pontos is actually the ancient name of Black See. The group was founded by Greek people whose colonies were in the Turkish part of Black See and returned in Greece. They will perform Greek dances which were developed there. The place of the group is the beautiful fisher village, Korinos. They will perform on 6.10.2016. Info: efkorinos@yahoo.gr

Society for Pierian studies”Estia Pieridon Mousson” Its is a cultural association developing chore and folk dances. They will perform twice. In the first one(4.10.17) they will  perform folk dances from continental Greece and on the last night(7.10.16) they  will present with the bouzouki band(typical stringed instrument of Greece) modern pop Greek dances (Zorbas dance, zeibekico,etc)

Both of the two groups they will perform with their musical instruments and uniforms.

Last night (07/10/2017) a Greek night theme is organised with five member Bouzouki band to accompany a singer.

Spouse program:

They will participate in all cultural events of the Congress and will have free the facilities of the Hotel(gym, spa, swimming pool). Also, they will have the opportunity to visit for a half day the city of Katerini , capital of the prefecture of Pieria and they may participate in courses for learning Greek and Israel folk dances.
